DIY...

Today's DIY post is a great addition to any closet.  Either you have plastic hangers or wire ones (I shutter at the thought) or you are lucky enough to have poofy lace covered ones;  I am not that lucky.  And sometimes they don't have the little hooks for holding stuff up, why they all don't I will never know.
A great tip is take some yarn and wrap it around, a touch of glue at start and finish will help keep the yarn in place.  This will help all those silky items, skinny straps stay in place and not fall of the hangers!

You can add bold colours like the picture below or do something sleek like black on white hangers or monochromatic, green hangers, green yarn.  So many choices!!  Plus look at the fun added to your closet with some colour!

DIY those hangers people!

Adore...

This week my little sister moved into her first 'big girl' home.  I am so happy and couldn't be more thrilled for her and her man for buying their first condo.  It is a loft style place and being that it is small she has zero closet space!  When I saw if for the first time I said "where do the shoes go?!"  With the thoughts of her mini closet reno on it is way, when {ApartmentTherapy} showcased this closet the other day on their site and I swooned with excitement.  I think I will be adding this closet to the file of  'dream closets' I have started.  Not to mention, if all those Orange boxes are {Hermes} boxes I want those, and also it appears to have cashmere sweaters in every colour, I will take those too!

Spotlight...

I am so thrilled today that FimC is having our first GUEST BLOGGER!!!  Since my blog is titled, 'Friends in my Closet' what better way to show you some 'friends' closets!  Local boutique {BLUSH} owner Michele opened up her closet to show us what her sense of fashion looks like at home.  They are quite the closets that any fashionista would love to borrow from, trust me.

Thank you Michele for blogging for me today, your kindness is bountiful.  If you live near Guelph or your driving by this Royal City, please stop and go into BLUSH, it is a fantastic store with lots of amazing clothes and most of all Michele!

In Michele's words:

Where to start...Being in retail for quite some time... and now an owner of a small women's boutique for  7 years... I've managed to collect quite a wardrobe! I am a big believer in purging! For me,  I like to have a good closet full of fun pieces and great basic staples.

Accessories... oooh I love my accessories.
Scarves, arm candy - bracelets, hats, bib necklaces, shoes and boots... all pieces that can totally change up your look, and easily!
Also accessories are a great thing to have fun with each season. It allows you to  pick up on key trend prints and colours to stay current each season without being too expensive!
Some prints and colours may be very popular one season but come back in style a few seasons later.
Tip....a few classics are... pearls, leopard print, & lace... always good pieces to hang on to and reinvent!

Living in an older house... closet space was hard to come by. We managed to have some built in closets...but I have one wardrobe that is my "Go - To" closet.
Closet #1
In this closet... I usually have my the current season's wardrobe in here. Owning Blush I love to be wearing my current Blush pieces at the shop.

It's important to me that I show my customers how to wear pieces and put them together to find their own personal style. We might both love the same piece but wear it very differently! That's the whole beauty of it all!

Closet #2
This is a closet I dig into on the weekends when I'm not at work. It's got some older pieces that I still adore and love to mix in with my current pieces.

I like to mix the odd vintage pieces in with designer and my Blush assortment!
I think a few pieces that every woman should have in their closet would be....

1. classic trench...such a timeless piece!
2. great dark denim ( flattering and a staple!)
3. classic white shirt ( never goes out of style...looks amazing with a denim...or paired with a sweet skirt.)
4.black blazer ( Go - To piece... you will throw it on with a t-shirt and jeans... or layer it over your dress)
5. colour or print accessory...just adds a bit of punch to your look. ( could be a fabulous print pink scarf or a great leopard bag) It's your style!

My style always changes up as I find many women do... right now... this would be one of my favourite outfits.
Classic but fun!

Spotlight...

A while back I posted some fashion bloggers closets from {ApartmentTherapy} that did a review on them, you can see them {here}.  I promised you readers I would showcase my closet; so finally the laundry is all done and this is what my closet looks like.

I am blessed to have a walk-in at my house, so come on in!

This is the left side and the right side of my walk-in.

Here on the left I keep all my fold-ables. Some things you may notice:
a)I keep a shopping bag on the shelf to put clothes I try on and no longer want, helps make it easier come closet cleaning time.
b) I store my hats all ontop of eachother to help condense space and keep their shape
c) I keep regular t-shirts, all tanks, linen shirts, workout clothes, and sleepwear each in their own cubbie.  Helps me go to exactly what I need a lot easier
d) keep all belts together and then all my leather gloves together ontop of the cubbies

Working its way into my dress collection on the far right  side. Its quite a LARGE collection of dresses.  I keep them in colour order as you can kinda tell.  So it goes all LBD, then grey dresses, blue dresses, green, coral/red dresses and I ended in sequins!  Ontop of the dresses is my denim collection.

This is a close  up picture of my dress/work shirts.  Again, all colour coordinated for ease of dressing in the morning or at any time really.  Always think BROYGBV; black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet!

Hope you enjoyed the walk around my closet! And the look into a space I spend a good chunk of time, IN, CLEANING, and ADDING too!

ps... If you have a great closet let me know, I would love to feature it!
I mean the blog is all about FRIENDS and CLOSETS!!!  :)

Inspiration...

{ApartmentTherapy} recently complied some style bloggers closets for a post on their blog, click {here} to see it.  I totally wanted to share some of the closets from these young and modern women.  It also got me thinking, I should let you all see my closet.  So over the coming weekend I am going to show you what my closet is all about, so stay tuned for that next week!  How does your closet fair against these ladies?
Find any inspiration to add to yours?!
