Red Carpet... Oscars 2014

Are you ready for it?  Can you handle it?  My annual OSCAR red carpet review!

The pre-shows started and the fashion was boring, muted, nothing was off the charts.  And then, BOOM, there wasn't a miss!  Thank goodness because I was begining to fret that the OSCARS were going to be a big let down.

I suspect that a bunch of ladies loved the Disney movie FROZEN because sheer, icey metalics were adorned on a bunch of ladies.  A few stunning black dresses pulled us to the dark side, and the other major trend everyone brought their mums!

Drum roll please..... dum dum dum...  here we go!

Amy Adams was a little boring for a lead actress nominee.  Even though she looked like a knock out in Gucci I expected/wanted more from her.  However those Tiffany earrings were amazing.

This is what she wore to an after party!  This is what I was expecting on the red carpet.  

a KNOCK OUT.

 Anna Kendrick left me puzzled.  I love the dress, I didn't love the dress.  Over all I thought the detailing on the bodice was so amazing and that clutch was everything.  J Mendel gets that the small things matter.  I want a GIANT gem as a handbag any day!

She came in late and pretty much went under the radar and who even knew Lady Gaga got an invite!  No matter what you say about the Mother Monster this pale pink Versace ensemble with breathtakingly feminine.  I could have done without the scarf (never a fan) but the beading made her petite frame look sooo curvy.  Great job Gaga!

 

And in another small package is Kristin Chenoweth in Roberto Cavalli.  Again with the beading detailing!  Ladies listen up, if you dont have it, allow detailing to give you it.  She was like a mini Oscar!

  Everyone's favorite girl and fellow clutz (she fell again this year.  a woman after my own heart) Jennifer Lawrence wore this fantastic colour Dior dress.  Simple a little to twin-sies to Amy Adams for me, she was one of a handful of ladies who wore colour so bonus points for her.

 Classy flapper was Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta.  Cant say anything bad about this dress it was stunning.  The hair however, let's talk how amazing those tosseled locks are!  She gives Jared Leto a run for best hair of the night..lol

And then the carpet's jaw dropped.  Forest green Vera Wang on Idina Menzel was breathtaking.  That rich colour with her brown hair and that necklace.  She knocked it out. 

 Bette Midler in Reem Acra was in my top three favorites of the night!  She looked unreal!!!!  That colour with her skin tone was delicious.  If you think lace makes you look old, THINK AGAIN!

Anne Hathaway in Prada at first I wasn't a big fan.  Yes nice dress, beading is nice, but that is all I thought.  Nice dress.  Then she went on TV and HOLY COW it sparkled and blinded my on my couch!  

Well done Anne.

The night's darling was Lupita Nyong'o in custom Prada.  She looked like she was walking on a cloud!  And rightfully so, as her first movie got her to the Oscars.

After she arrived this began circling the internet and I just had to share!

 Portia de Rossi in Naeem Khan made me think of honey combs, crochet and lace all wrapped up into one!  I thought it was a nice dress, a great silhouette on her.

Sally Hawkins in Valentino made me swoon!  Loved the sleeves, loved how she paired light flouncy hair with a heavy embellished dress.

BOOM BLUE!  This is what a class act and Oscar worthy dress is.  Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen was literally out of this world.  Stunning.  She made my top three; I am sure she feels so honored..lol

More ladies in neutrals and metallics.  All three we gorgeous, but what stood out to me was Angelina's boobs looked awesome, and Cate's opal earrings were unreal.

Who says you can't wear white in Winter!  These ladies proved white in LA is an all year thing!

And then the BLACK reigned.  Charlize was hands down the sex pot of the night.  Those high peaks on the straps screamed VA VA VOOM!  Julia Roberts in Lace was great.  Like Sandy that is what class and perfection look like. 

 

Drum roll... my hands down favorite of the night was Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace.  First the detachable cape is everything, that plunging V, the subtle hair.  I mean.  Hollywood Glam eat your heart out.  This is a dress that makes fashion legendary!

 

and now my least favorite

 

Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent.  Girl, I am all for the new dark hair.  Hell I love a strong brow, I even dig a deep deep coloured lip.  But doing that ALL with this black column dress was too much.  I would have loved the same styling in a lighter coloured dress.  Would have made more of an impact.  Sorry Margot.

I could continue with thirty other red carpet looks.  Hell I could break down all the parties and what everyone wore.  But I won't.  Mostly because I am sick and have zero energy.  However!  I will show you an amazing dress from the Vanity Fair party that I think is soooo note worthy!

Zooey Deschanel is Oscar de la Renta.  Only way I can describe it is grown-floral-sexy.  Loved this dress.  Thought it was so refreshing from all the super heavy beaded metallic dresses.  And that hair, this girl is stepping up her flirt game!

Event Clothing... Golden Globed 2014

Here we are.. first blog post of 2014... a long time coming....

So before getting into all the little things happening with me, or the things I would like to GRIPE about, or the MUST HAVE FINDS we shall begin with a bang, GOLDEN GLOBE red carpet review!!!

Drum roll please... and we are off!

Alison Williams in Alexander McQueen was boring for me.  She has an incredible body and has worn some great pieces so this was just boring and safe for me.  It is TV's biggest night, bring out the big guns.  Side note, GIRLS is back and I am BEYOND happy about it!

Amber Heard, WOW... stunning!  That midnight blue was radiant.  Now granted you may be looking at this picture and thinking I am smoking something but perhaps this wasn't the most flattering angle, but va va voom!

Aubrey Plaza did what I love, took a chance in Oscar de la Renta!  Purple, lilac and pink, so fresh!  Also, this is the first sighting of the trend of the night, the modified hem line showing the shoes.  Aside from being pregnant this was the top trend of the carpet.

And speaking of pregnant and hemlines, Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuiller.  It is not my favorite but could have been a lot worse.  Let's just say she wears that pregnant glow amazingly well.

My girl, Jennifer Lawrence in Dior.  Sadly this was not thrilling.  This girl has way my sartorial class than most and this dress was average.  It is already being mocked all over the internet with duvets and electrical tape.  I am hoping she played this down so her Oscar dress will seem UNREAL.  Fingers crossed.

Ever the classic Julia Roberts in Dolce and Gabbana.  Effortless and timeless is what this look was.  Ageless perhaps.  Her makeup was fantastic, a nice dark eye.

Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn knocked my socks off.  The proportions and the deep V, thumbs up!

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera left me perplexed.  This is when a tiny petite girl gets her proportions wrong.  The sleeves were too big for her frame, but A++ for the colours and the velvet.  Stunning dress just maybe not for her.

Newlywed funny gal Kaley Cuoco in this printed Rani Zakhem was a beautiful sight!  I loved it, classic feminine beauty with a twist.  Also look closely she did a great GREEN eye makeup that brought out the subtly hues of the dress. 

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad proving she is still the sex pot with the mostest.  Fun fact!  The zipper in the dress broke in the limo and she was late on arrival to the carpet and she had to be sewn into this super tight dress... imagine what happens when she has to pee...lol

Pregnant Kerry Washington in a custom Balenciaga was gorgeous.  She let the bump to do all the talking!

IT girl Lena Dunham in the amazingly bright Zac Posen is her stepping up her carpet game!  The corset work on Posen's dresses are magical, and it worked its magic on her curves.  She is getting hit hard in the press with thumbs down but I really do/did like it.

Proving the peplum is here to stay Leslie Mann wore Dolce and Gabbana and she wore it well.  Always a lady she is.

Melissa McCarthy in her own design left me going.. ugh why!  Love her, love her choices 90% of the time but this dress was too much fabric for me.  Just felt she could have done better than a graduation gown with a fancy drapey scarf.

My new obsession Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta.  The colour was too muted for me but the dress flatters her sooo well.  *trend alert

Resse Witherspoon is a sporty femme fatale in this dress.  This Calvin Klein dress colour is a stand out.

Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung is in my top picks.  It was just so different! *trend alert

Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen was meh.  However, that necklace, I die!  The necklace canceled out my lack luster appeal of the dress.

At first glance I thought Tina Fey's dress was a flamingo pattern and I was THRILLED, cause how awesome would that be.  Then I noticed it was flowers, boo ..lol  But really, great dress!

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta gets major major fashion props for making a crop top acceptable for black tie fare.  Hello who does that!  Love this girl!  *trend alert

Elizabeth Moss in J Mendal was amazing!  This is in my very top favorites.  Sexy, feminine, daring and yet that cranberry colour is so classic.  Hands down a winner for sure!  *trend alert

Now Emma Watson in Dior is getting mixed reviews.  This twenty year old pushed the envelope and I LOVED it!  How daring yet classic is this apron dress with pants!  She makes me want to rip the back out of a dress and rock this all summer long!  I would totally suggest this outfit for a wedding guest this Summer... knock out.

SHOCKINGLY not getting much attention is Lizzy Caplan in Emillio Pucci.  The lines of the gold beading is an amazing silhouette.

Ok, confession time.  I have no clue who this is, or what she is wearing, but that blue is gorgeous!  Makes me think my closet needs more robins egg blue in it!  *trend alert

 

Lupita Nyong'o  in Ralph Lauren.  Although she looked amazing, that skin, all I thoguht is Gwenyth did it before.

Margot Robbie in Oscar de le Renta was breathtaking.  Something about emerald green and white is always amazing.  Loved her shoes!  Oh ps, you HAVE to go see Wolf on Wall Street, it is vulgar and long but 100% amazing!

IF I am ever pregnant I want to be completely in cased in green sequins.  I am officially jealous of a pregnant lady! Oliva Munn made everyone green with envy in this Gucci dress.

Rashida Jones in this super unique Fatso Puglisi dress made me realize that no matter the event her personality will shine.  An unusual choice but it works!

Event Clothing... 2013 Emmy Red Carpet

I might have taken a holiday from blogging, but when it comes to red carpet reviews how could I not break the silence and do my review!

Major themese of the night were:
minimal jewellery
coloum, body hugging silouttes
and BOX CLUTCHES!!!!  yes, I am serious, box clutches were the BIG reoccurring trend of the night.  So next time you go to grab an evening bag make sure it is a boxed one.  The red carpet said so..lol

To do something different going to start with my pick for least favorite!  Why not!  Keep you on your toes!

Drum roll....... bum bum bum bum... my 2013 Emmy red carpet review!

 Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza looked like she was 16 and going to prom. UGH!  What were you thinking!!!!  She was performing, not nominated, felt with zero pressure she can could have taken a WAY bigger risk then a traditional prom dress.  The Y necklace although nice just added the prom vibe.  Now, that necklace with a plugging neckline, winner.  

Sorry Carrie, but you are my least favourite.

Zosia Mamet from GIRLS in an Honor dress was amazing.  LOVED the risk, the pattern.  Where it fell short for me was the black bra part; t looked like a censorship bar if you know what I mean.  If that was gone, legit, this would have been my favorite of the night.  But even with that said, I still LOVE IT!

 

Favorite to win, yet didn't Kerry Washington in Marchesa was super feminine.  I thought it looked beautiful, something a grown up fairy would wear.  People magazine just named her best dressed of 2013 and it is well deserved.  *please note this is the first appearance of the box clutch..lol

Michele Dockery in Prada.  Now this is modern and contemporary.  The rust coloured in two tones was so fresh.  She pushed the envelope and won. *box clutch

 

Tina Fey in Narcisco Rodriguez, was making everyone blue with envy.  I however, not so much.  I couldn't help shake that she reminded me of superman.  Seriously, I couldn't think of anything else.  Perhaps if there was some flare, a  bigger bracelet, hair up, a larger earring it would have offset my feelings.  I hope no smurfs or superman capes were harmed in the making of this dress.

Well the buxom babe has done it AGAIN.. a mermaid dress.  Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang stuck to the silhouette she does best, boobs out, and skin tight.  Guess don't fix what isn't broken?  She said on the red carpet she was wearing Kmart undergarments.  I am driving to the nearest Kmart if they have undergarments that can me look like that I tell ya.

Christina Hendricks from Mad Men in a black lace Christian Siriano gown.  This was safe for her, but still super elegant.  *box clutch

Taylor Schilling in Thakoon was that California beachy cool surfer chick vibe.  Very sexy, very edgy.  She pushed the modern red carpet boundaries and succeeded.  *box clutch

Zooey Deschanel always wears something super girly but this J. Mendel powder blue column dress was sexy for her.  The tosseled tresses added to its appeal.  Our little Zooey is growing up; until you see her mani and it has little mustaches on it.  Guess not fully grown up! lol  *box clutch

I love me some Lena Dunham, I appreciate she wears what she wants!  This floral print dress was unreal!  She is getting some flack for it in the press, but hello, look at her! It is unlike anything else and that is what makes it amazing.  I also could not starring at her yes.  Great dramatic eye with the green.  

Ahh.. Dunham in Prada makes me happy.

Connie Britton in a Naeen Khan velvet gown did NOTHING for me.  Not the worst but too much a good thing.  The gold on the dress, the stacked arm candy, the gold on the nails, the gold *box clutch, all too much gold.  Wait, did I just say you can have too much gold?! I shouldn't have stopped blogging.  

So, correction, never too much gold! lol

Plain and simple was January Jones in Givenchy.  Pretty but nothing to write about.

Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn in a pale pink and black lace Romona Keveza gown was sexy and classy.

Elisabeth Moss in Andrew Gn was my super awesome pick of the night.  And sadly this picture does NOT due it any justice.  Complete sequins from head to two!  Classic, modern, colour on trend, simple and timeless.  Amazing.  *box clutch

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Monique Lhuiller was oozing amazing.  This dress must have weighed a ton!  Again this picture does not due it justice.  Those were all individual beads.  Classic lines, simple hair down, she let the gown speak for itself.  *box clutch

 Julianne Hough took a risk and this twenty-something year old lady rocked it!  In Jenny Packham dress she was young and sexy.  The pale grey almost mint green colour was effortless. 

 Oh to be 25 again and wear this! *box clutch

Julie Bowen, the 80's called and they want their Zac Posen peach dress back.  Julie loves some dress drama but this had too much going on for me. *box clutch

I want this dress.  Burgundy, sexy and classy was this Vera Wang dress Kaley Cuoco wore.

This is an illusion dress!  I didn't even notice on the red carpet the bottom was see-thru! Leslie Mann in J. Mendel was super sexy.  That is one hot mama! *box clutch

My girl crush Mindy Kaling slayed in this Georges Chakra dress.  Best part was that amazing neckline.  What  you can't see here is that is was identical on the back.  Beautiful.  Also note that this sleeve length is back in style!  *box clutch

 Robin Wright in a sleek and modern Ralph Lauren dress was everything a sexy and sophisticated woman should wear.  A++

Our Canadian girl Jessica Pare wore Oscar de la Renta.  Great choice, but the shoes, snooze fest.  She could have done with a WAY better shoe choice.  And pockets, this trend not over yet?

Speaking of snooze fests, Allison Williams in Ralph Lauren.  Miss Allison, you are on a top hit show about GIRLS wear something fun, adventurous this was just BORING.  

That is my review.  Hope you laughed, hope I didn't make you cry.  And for heaven's sake, if I didn't drive home the BOX CLUTCH trend you should really read this post again!
